FAQs

Shipping

How long does shipping take?

Most orders ship within 2–4 business days. Orders with Fresh Milling Service may require up to 7 business days for fulfillment. Once shipped, delivery typically takes 2–8 business days, depending on the carrier and destination.

What shipping carriers do you use?

We ship via USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground Saver, whichever is most cost-effective.

Do you ship to private mailboxes (PMB)?

Yes. We ship to private mailboxes (PMBs), including mailboxes at shipping and mailbox stores.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently ship only within the United States, with the exception of APO addresses for U.S. Military and Diplomatic customers. Canadian customers who live close to the U.S. border may want to consider shipping to a U.S.-based private mailbox (PMB). For customers who do not have access to a U.S. shipping address, we recommend using AmForward.com, a package-forwarding company based in tax-free Oregon.

Why did my order ship in multiple packages?

Orders may ship in multiple packages to reduce shipping costs and minimize the risk of damage during transit.

Policies

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

No. All sales are final. We do not accept returns or exchanges.

What if my order is damaged or incorrect?

If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, please contact us through our Contact Us page with details and photos if possible. We will assist with a replacement or refund as appropriate.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes. Gift certificates can be purchased for yourself or as a gift for someone else. Gift certificates are non-refundable, cannot be redeemed for cash, and cannot be used to purchase another gift certificate. Lost or stolen gift certificates cannot be replaced.

Products

Are all your products gluten-free?

Yes. Our malt is sourced from dedicated gluten-free facilities and is repackaged using dedicated equipment. All buckwheat, corn, millet, and rice malts are handled using the same equipment. Some non-malt products may be produced and/or repackaged on shared equipment; and manufacturers may change ingredients without notice.

Do your products contain allergens, including gluten?

We only offer gluten-free brewing ingredients. However, some products may be produced in facilities that also handle common allergens, and ingredients can change without notice. We recommend consulting with a medical professional if you have specific allergen concerns.

Are brewing enzymes necessary for gluten-free beer?

Yes, brewing enzymes are required for most gluten-free beer recipes, as they help convert starches into fermentable sugars needed for proper fermentation. In certain situations—such as using advanced techniques like decoction mashing—enzymes may not be necessary.

When should I add brewing enzymes?

Gluten-free grains have little natural enzyme activity, so it is important to use enzymes for full starch conversion and good fermentation. In general, most recipes use either a single infussion or rising step mash, and enzymes are added together at the beginning of the mash. Refer to our all-grain brewing tutorials for a more detailed explanation.

Why can’t I just brew regular beer and use Clarity Ferm® to reduce gluten?

According to White Labs, Clarity Ferm® has "been found to reduce gluten in beer brewed with barley". However, results can vary and are not guaranteed. Research has shown that “gluten-reduced” beers may not test consistently below 20 ppm. Other studies suggest that an immune response may still occur even when no immediate symptoms are reported.

Brewing with gluten-free ingredients provides a more reliable way to avoid gluten exposure. However, individual sensitivities can vary, and customers should make decisions based on their own health requirements.

Why do recipes using Ceremix® Flex and Ondea Pro use so much less malt?

These enzymes help create a more efficient mash, meaning more of the sugars from the malt are converted and used by the yeast. In simple terms, they help you get more out of less grain, while still producing a beer with good flavor, body, and alcohol content.

Do you offer grain milling services?

Yes. We offer a Fresh Milling Service for customers who want their gluten-free malt ready to brew. Orders with Fresh Milling Service may require up to 7 business days for fulfillment. Please see the Fresh Milling Service product page for complete details and guidelines.

How do I mill malt myself?

A high-quality option is the Monster Mill MM-2Pro Gluten-Free Malt Edition, which has specially designed knurls on the rollers to better handle smaller gluten-free grains. Recommended mill gap settings are 0.60–0.70 mm for millet and buckwheat, and 0.85–0.95 mm for rice malt.

Conventional grain mills can also be used; however, gluten-free malt may slip between the larger knurls on the rollers. For best results:

  • Set the mill to the tightest gap setting
  • Test a small amount of malt first before milling your full batch to ensure proper crush
  • Run the grain through multiple passes if needed
  • Expect some variation depending on your mill and grain type

An affordable alternative is a Corona or Victoria-style kitchen mill.

What’s the difference between an extract and partial mash kit?

Extract kits use gluten-free malt extract (syrup) as the primary fermentable ingredient, making them the easiest and fastest way to brew gluten-free beer. Partial mash kits combine gluten-free malt extract with malted gluten-free grains, allowing you to brew with fresh malt while adding more control, flavor complexity, and a hands-on brewing experience.

Which beer yeasts are gluten-free?
  • Lallemand LalBrew® dry yeasts are labeled gluten-free.
  • Mangrove Jack’s and CellarScience® dry yeasts are also considered gluten-free based on manufacturer correspondence.
  • Fermentis (SafAle™, SafBrew™, SafLager™) dry yeasts are not labeled gluten-free, but have historically been relied upon in gluten-free beer brewing. Recent labeling changes from the manufacturer now include a “contains wheat” statement on some packaging.
  • Liquid yeast can be produced using gluten-free propagation methods but are currently unavailable on the homebrew market.
Should I use yeast nutrients during fermentation?

Yes, gluten-free malt typically provide low levels of nutrients (FAN – Free Amino Nitrogen), and yeast nutrients supply essential nitrogen, vitamins, and minerals that support healthy yeast acivity. Yeast consume organic nitrogen first, then shift to inorganic nitrogen as alcohol rises—so adding inorganic sources too early can stress yeast and hinder fermentation.

For best results, it’s recommended to follow proper dosing amounts and timing guidelines to support yeast health throughout fermentation.
